I was visiting my very good friends one spring. Bill, a talented musician and song writer and his wife Jennifer, a talented artist. As Bill gave us a tour of their home I noticed a painting that did not look like Jennifer's art work and asked Bill who painted it. His reply - "I did." My initial reaction was confusion. In my head I thought, "But... Bill is a musician..." Out loud I said, "You mean ANYONE can paint?" Bill assured me that yes, anyone who wants to paint can indeed do so.
I was sad that I had never thought of that before. So when we returned home I hit the local art supply store and bought all of the materials and we (Me, my wife and 4 children) all got busy putting paint to canvas. My brain had no idea what to do and I produced something forgettable (below). But it was enough to make me want to try again and again and again. In short time I switched from brushes to a 12" concrete trowel and I haven't looked back. Creating contrasts and chaos is a tremendous amount of fun. If you are ever wondering whether or not you should try something new, remember - Anyone can paint.
